Porsche pushes the performance of the mid-engine Boxster roadster into the ionosphere with the 718 Spyder RS.

The 718 Spyder RS can be considered the reader counterpart to the Cayman-based 718 GT4 RS.

Like the GT4 RS, the Spyder RS is powered by a 493-hp 4.0-liter flat-six with individual throttle bodies and dry-sump lubrication.

Top speed is 191 mph.

With the two-piece manual top in place, however, Porsche recommends not exceeding 122 mph.

The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is the only transmission available.

The dual-clutch's launch control helps the Spyder RS get to 60 mph in a claimed 3.2 seconds.

The front styling of the 718 Spyder RS is almost identical to that of the GT4 RS, except that the Spyder has a 2.0-inch shorter front splitter.

Among the items included in the Weissach package is a titanium exhaust system.

Pricing for the 718 Spyder RS starts at $163,650.
